He used to dive it with Jack. Go up Hwy 70 past Oroville. Go through the three tunnels. After the three tunnels there is a bridge with lots of parking and easy access to the river. Lots of large bass and crawdads, and very little current (I was told less than the Hatchery). Cleaner water than at the Hatchery, also. I was also told, 60 ft. depth and you have to dive it in the couple of hours the sun hits the water, so timing the dive is important; otherwise, you'll need lights to see with. Bass are at about 25 ft and on the pillars of the bridge. Crawdads are at the bottom. If you find a dead crawdad, and take it up to where the bass hang out, they will fight over it. Makes for a great photo .... Here's a map. classic.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Oroville&1s=CA&1y=US&1l=39.513901&1g=-121.555298&1v=CITY&2c=Tobin&2s=CA&2y=US&2l=39.939209&2g=-121.309921&2v=CITYIt's at least an hours drive up Hwy 70; depends on how much sightseeing is done. Again, there is no place to buy gas. You might be able to get gas at Belden Town; but, it might cost 10 - 15 dollars a gallon! Fill up before leaving Oroville or Chico! Take plenty of water and food.

If the map link doesn't work ... Go to mapquest and put in Oroville, CA to Tobin, CA and it should give you a map.

I haven't had a chance to ever dive this site, and probably won't .... I talked to Jack and he told me that it's a hard site to get to the water (there is an area you have to climb down rocks (he injured his hand and it took awhile to get well). Also, when entering the water there is quite a bit of current ... he lost his fin and never found it. I would say, from what Jack told me, this is a way beyond recreational diving capabilities and training.
